HSA Basics

HSA Application

A Health Savings Account plan has two parts: the health insurance policy, and a tax-free savings account. The health plan is a high deductible insurance policy. The premiums tend to be much lower than a plan with co-pays and a smaller deductible. HSA's have no doctor or drug co-pays. The full cost of routine care, emergency care, and your prescriptions count toward the deductible.

Once the deductible is met, most plans pay 100% of eligible costs.

You can set aside extra money in a tax-free account for use toward routine health costs. You do not have to open the account, by why turn down a tax deduction? Unspent money stays in the account year after year, and the money stays tax free as long as you use it for qualified expenses.

Affordable coverage for the major, unexpected expenses. Tax savings for the routine items. Keep the money you would have spent on a lower deductible plan.
